Have a cage that fits LCR's specifications in our care guide. The cage must be fully outfitted and ready to go at time of application.

Common husbandry mistakes and how to fix them
Cage not ready - the cage must be ready to house rats with all hammocks, houses, clutter, toys, and water bottles shown in the application photo
Unsafe bedding - suitable rat bedding is kiln dried pine or aspen. Paper bedding is dangerous for rats due to not holding ammonia.
Not enough clutter - use C style plastic clips to affix hammocks and toys to your cage. Rats are prey animals, they need places to hide. We recommend these clips off amazon. Link to clips.
Unsuitable cage - LCR recommends single or double critter nations. Tanks do not have enough ventilation for rats. Rat houses need to be a minimum of 50 gallons for three rats with 1/2in or smaller bar spacing. For 3-4 rats, we recommend the Prevue Pet Products 528. It regularly goes on sale for $70. Link to cage.
